The Thievery Corporation has my heart...

Passing Starts is a totally laid back song.. I wasn't even in the mood for this song but I can't help it, the Thievery has my heart.

DRAGON ASH!!

Dragon Ash is Japan's best answer to music....Rolling old school with a fresh mix that combines the legacies of Beastie Boys, Zach de la Rocha, Cypress Hill and their own funk; this band simply kicks some serious ass.

Deep Impact is one of my ultimate and most favorite songs...

Ofra Haza & Lisa Gerrard Leave me Breathless..

These two women leave me breathless...

Ofra Haza's Love Song is posted below in the raw... However, there are some great remixes out there; one of my favorites is the Northern Lights Remix. You will have to google it though. I only wanted to brag about her amazing voice -not the works of anyone else at this time-.

Lisa Gerrard: You might remember her from when she was in Dead Can Dance or maybe from the Gladiator soundtrack?

Nostalgic thoughts...

I once received a dozen sunflowers sent to me from some one who was going to be stuck in Vienna for an entire semester. The card simply read "Is it still raining there, too...?" I knew at that moment that the reference was an indirect quote from Mazzy's Star Five String Serenade.

This is how you woe a woman, no doubt.

Pre Sale Tickets to The Thievery Corporation

Both Rob Garza and Eric Hilton are the mix masters of the forgotten, dusty LPs that sit in someone's attic, or in a gloomy record shop at the end of Main street...Once they get a hold of these records, they turn them into musical prose like no one ever has before.

I just purchased 4 tickets for the Thievery Corporation at Stubs in Austin Tuesday, June 24th, 2008.

Tickets are not on sale yet, but you can purchase your tickets early through their space online.

Front 242: What High School Memories are made of!!

Calling all Generation Xers:

I've two words for you: Front 242...! Have you forgotten about the band that, after the release of Tyranny for You in 1991 made us dance well into the early mornings of our high school days? I was 17 at the time... and, in my world, they were the iconoclasts of music, the precursor to smart drinks, raves and everything in between.

Here's a few more to take you down a great memory lane:
-My Life with The Thrill Kill Kult
-Ministry
-Souxie and the Banshees
-Ned's Atomic Dustbin
-Depeche Mode
-Soda Estereo
-Fobia
-Charlie Garcia
-Los Enanitos Verdes
-Ayux Nahual
-They Might Be Giants
-10,000 Maniacs
-Phish
-Beastie Boys
-Shonen Knife
-Lucious Jackson
- In as much as I hate to admit it now: Nine Inch Nails

She Wants Revenge...

I couldn't help but avoid this band from L.A. because of the band's name... She Wants Revenge? WTF? Regardless of my disapproval, Justin Warfield and his band mates certainly prove that a rose, by any other name would smell just as sweet.

These dudes are not afraid to admit their love for hip hop, they are not afraid of keeping it real and voicing the collective experiences of different genres of music, regardless of how un-cool it might seem at the time...

There's something so transparent and romantic about his lyrics: "as I whisper in your ear, I want to tear you apart." At a glance, you think psychopath and later, you develop a sense of romanticism and hopelessness that stems from his very raspy sounds.

Check them out when you get a chance.

Bow to Antonio Sanchez

There is a strong argument with many about Antonio's talent...Mainly, that he is given far too much credit than what he deserves. I say, who cares? Enjoy the music, respect his hard work and talent but mainly, enjoy the music!

Berlin!

Don't ever think that Berlin's best song is "Take my Breath Away." They are so much more than the vision of Tom Cruise emerging out of the smoke in a pilot's uniform.
Case in point is the song Metro.. I've included it below and, you can check out their myspace page where they actually have uploaded a fantastic acoustic version of it and, I strongly recommend that you listen to it. Here's the original video below:

Commercial Hip Hop has a pretty side, too!

I fucking LOVE this song... DJs of the world, please beat the living hell out of this song? Please? mix it and remix it... I've no idea why the thought of "she wore apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur (with the fur), the whole club was looking at her"
can be so contagious. I've the reputation of a snob when it comes to music yet,
I'm guilty of singing this song out loud.... at work.. during meetings...yes, in public... WTF?

The Breeders...

I saw the Breeders on April 10th, 1994 in San Antonio. I remember the exact date because that is the day I learned that Kurt Cobain had committed suicide. I felt so sad about not ever liking his music and wished so badly that I did; after listening to his work all I could bare to listen to was Polly. I then dissected the song and realized it's the voice of a rapist begging for help. It freaked my shit and paved the way for the possibility of a solution to end sexual abuse: For society to accept sexual assault as a mental illness no one is willing to treat... and perhaps begin to treat it?

Iris, I wonder now, is about a lesbian affair? Someone put that in my head when I was a freshman in college and I've accepted it as the ultimate truth.. At any rate, we all know that When Iris sleeps over, it will all right...

Israel what are you feeding the children of Abraham?

I.Zen and Duvded are Infected Mushroom, an Israeli techno something duo that simply kicks ass the way techno something music should. Please forgive my lack of eloquence as I dub them as 'techno something' but I am so far removed from the electronic scene nowadays that I've managed to somehow forget the beats, the rhythm and the lingo used to describe the magic tunes. Back then, I remember house. jungle (my favorite). techno. electronica. bullshit and commercial music but this was back when Frankie Bones was the shit and making it to my 8am classes were my only worries.

At any rate, check out Infected Mushroom and again, forgive my writer's block and un-coolness... That's what I get for growing up.

And I'm Bewitched...

"All of the sudden.. the girl of my dreams, she never asks, she always screams..."

Those are the Bewitched lyrics by Luna and just make me crumble... I don't know if it's the lead singer's sweet, tender voice or the simple fact that he so elegantly sings about how his psycho girlfriend freaks out?

I just want to turn them into literature.

Here's Luna in a live performance at the Boston Museum.. Bear with me please, this is the only video I could find of Bewitched, my favorite song.

Kruder & Dorfmeister and Depeche Mode?

Holly FUCK. Listening to some of their work (like the video posted below, a remix of one of the songs by Depeche Mode), is like going to one of those mega Target stores where you buy organic food, get your prescriptions filled, buy a couch, furnish your beach house and, find the perfect purse all in the same place.

Kruder and Dorfmeister? Allow me to introduce: Austrian boys based out of Vienna who gained much popularity simply by being bad asses. I must admit that Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister still remain a mystery to me. One of their albums (G Stone I think it is, though don't quote me here) resembles one of Simon and Garfunkel's album covers. I am quiet convinced that it must be an inside joke?

Pat Metheny Rocks My World

My very first entry must be dedicated Pat Metheny - the man himself- who, along with Antonio Sanchez play a killer live rendition of Go Get it. This was recorded in Tokyo back in 2002.

Before you watch it, it is imperative that you understand something about me: I absolutely LOVE Pat Metheny... I have yet to meet someone else who is as enthralled by his music as I am. I've even had to roll solo at his concerts because even my most amazing friends don't seem to understand him... - fuckers.

Look at how he looses himself in his guitar! This is Happiness.
